Freemasons Society – University of Hull

On Tuesday, 16th September 2025 the newly established Freemasonry Society held a stall at the at the University of Hull's 2025 Freshers' Fair. The day was a valuable opportunity to represent Freemasonry, with the primary objective to establish a visible, friendly presence and to open a dialogue with the student community about who we are and what we stand for.

According to Bro. Tim Roberts, of Juno Lodge, No. 10001 and President of the Society:

‘The stall attracted a significant amount of footfall throughout the day, and we were encouraged by the high level of curiosity and the quality of the engagement. We held numerous positive interactions with students from a wide array of backgrounds, answering thoughtful questions and working to dispel some of the common myths surrounding our fraternity.’

Those present found that in the fast-paced environment of a freshers' fair, students were more receptive to taking away information to consider in their own time. To this end, the key success was the distribution of a large number of flyers, which provide a comprehensive and official introduction to Freemasonry in the local area.

Success at an outreach event of this nature is not always measured by an immediate list of names. It is measured by the seeds of interest that are sown. Every flyer taken represents a potential future candidate who is now equipped with accurate information. Only time will tell how successful the day truly was, as the path to Freemasonry is a considered journey, not an impulsive decision.

The Society will have the support of Juno Lodge, No.10001, the local Universities Scheme Lodge, as well as The Honourable Fraternity of Ancient Freemasons (HFAF) and The Order of Women's Freemasonry working with the Society to enhance collaboration and promote core principles of integrity, friendship, and respect for those wishing to learn more.

A big thank you to the University Society Support Network who were able to advise and offer continued support.

As Tim noted : ‘We are confident that the groundwork laid at this event will lead to enquiries over the coming months. It was a vital exercise in public engagement, and we have successfully presented Freemasonry as an open and relevant organisation for young people today.’
